Apply to be a tutor!
Rockwall Tutoring is always looking for tutors to bring the highest level of academic competence and compassion to the students of Rockwall County. If this resonates with you, we welcome you to fill out the intake form to be considered.
Here are what the best of the best look like:
- you have competence in your field
- you exude patience
- you are a cheerleader for when kids succeed
- you believe that when kids gain confidence, it spills into every other area of their life
You don't have to be a phenom at physics, connoisseur of calculus, or genius at grammar to be a great tutor (although we do have a cognoscente of chemistry). A lot of adults actually know more than they give themselves credit for.
HOWEVER, here's the non-negotiable: you HAVE to have a heart for loving and serving children. I am very much a believer of the Golden Rule (Matthew 7:12), and I use it every day with my tutoring kids.
If see tutoring as an opportunity to help, serve, and love kids, I want to learn more about you and potentially partner with you to do amazing things in kids’ lives.
Thank you,
Matt Sikes

Common questions for prospective tutors:
-
The primary requirement is that you have a strong proficiency in the material you wish to tutor. Many of our tutors are Certified Texas Educators, but this is not a requirement.
You must have patience and a heart for serving and loving kids.
Rockwall Tutoring will be known for what is stated front and center on the website: “We are a gathering of the smartest and most compassionate tutors in Rockwall County, Texas.” The word choice on this mission statement is very intentional. Both proficiency and compassion are needed for a great tutor. -
All tutoring sessions will be held on a weekly basis during a time that works for both the student and the tutor. Tutoring sessions will take place in quiet public meeting places such as libraries, coffee shops, restaurants, parks, etc. Rockwall Tutoring does not meet in children’s or tutor’s homes.

Tutors are classified as 1099 contractors, and therefore can take on as few or many students as there are available. Many of our tutors have full-time careers, and are also raising young children at home. We work with your schedule to give you the best opportunity for taking on students without overloading your schedule. There is no pressure to take on more kids than you are comfortable seeing in one week.
In terms of long term commitment, most tutoring sessions start in August shortly after school begins, and stay with tutoring until the final day of the school year. Our tutoring schedule follows the Rockwall ISD District calendar for holidays/breaks.
Tutors willing to commit to the entire school year find their experience to be the most rewarding and successful.
